CILTER Newsletter 1(16) is published!
Dear IELLI Staff, Students and Friends of CILTER,
As we move further into the term, I hope you are all finding your rhythm again. This part of the semester often feels like a mix of momentum and reflection, and this issue captures that spirit beautifully.
Across the contributions in this newsletter, one thing stands out clearly: the strength of our community lies in the many ways we connect research, teaching, and practice. The upcoming SAJILE launch event on 26 November is a perfect example of this. SAJILE is not only an open-access journal, it is a student–staff collaboration at its core, shaped by shared leadership, peer learning, and a commitment to making research accessible. I hope many of you will join the event, especially to hear from Professor Peter De Costa (IELLI Honorary Professor) and from several of our first-issue authors who will be presenting their work.
This issue also highlights exciting work taking place across IELLI and beyond. We see students like Virginia Parker publishing with colleagues, and staff collaborations such as Dr Eilidh Harris and Dr Paula Villegas’ article on inclusive academic communities. There is also a growing presence of IELLI voices in external conversations: Dr Rebecca Wilson’s contributions to the Learning Development conference proceedings, and Donald Richardson’s recent podcast interview discussing his scoping review on location-based games.
We have one more exciting event to highlight: the rescheduled Edu-X Seminar with Dr Agnes Tang takes place on 9 January, 4–5 pm (UK time). Her talk on cultivating civic-minded English educators through community engagement will be a wonderful way to start the new year with fresh ideas.
