Happy New Year from everyone at the Centre for International, Language and Teacher Education Research (CILTER)!
Launched in June 2025, CILTER is a university-approved research centre dedicated to supporting teachers, practitioners, and education professionals to engage meaningfully in research.
Here are some highlights from our first six months:
🔹 Developed our Research and Impact Strategy, setting a clear direction for practitioner-engaged research
🔹 Funded 4 practitioner-led research projects (£4,000 total)
🔹 Awarded £6,000 in conference funding, enabling practitioners to share their scholarship work internationally
🔹 Launched our first professorial masterclass on AI in language education
🔹 Established our in-house journal, the St Andrews Journal of International and Language Education (SAJILE)
🔹 Published the inaugural issue of SAJILE with 7 publications
🔹 Created 8 thematic hubs, co-run by students and staff, to foster collaboration and dialogue on burning education-related topics
🔹 Published 18 newsletters showcasing scholarship of teaching and learning by IELLI students and staff
🔹 Appointed 2 research assistants to strengthen research capacity
🔹 Developed 3 apps on AI-assisted evidence synthesis
🔹 Hosted a webinar on leading teacher professional development
